UV Shield Technology

UV light emissions cause fading and damage to plastics and fabrics. UV Shield lamps virtually eliminate yellowing of polycarbonate lenses to ensure extended maximum light output whilst providing superior white light. Laboratory tests demonstrate that UV Shield lamps extend the life of a polycarbonate lens six to ten times longer than using a standard metal halide lamp. In comparison, accelerated laboratory tests show that at just 1200 burning hours, the UV output of a standard metal halide lamp degrades a polycarbonate lens to a yellowing index (YI) of 25-40, well above the level considered failed. The lens material is so yellowed that light transmission is virtually impossible, and the impact resistance of the plastic is compromised.

The same laboratory tests reveal that with UV Shield lamps, lenses show a YI of only 2-5 over the same time frame. All UV Shield lamps feature the Uni-Form formed body arc tube and provide the same compact size, long performance life, and energy efficiency along with UV protection. UV Shield lamps are ideal for preventing yellowing and fading in a wide variety of interior and exterior applications in manufacturing, warehouse and retail establishments.

UV Shield lamps can also be used in enclosed luminaires. This reduces yellowing of polycarbonate lenses, ensuring maximum white light output. Laboratory tests demonstrate that UV Shield extends polycarbonate lens life by a factor of six to ten times.
